How do I calculate how much mulch I need?
Measure your area (length × width in feet), choose depth (typically 2–4 inches). Use: cubic yards = (area × depth in inches) ÷ 324. Our calculator handles this automatically and shows 2 cu ft bags, 3 cu ft bags, and cost range.
How many square feet does a pallet of sod cover?
A standard sod pallet covers 450 square feet. Our calculator adds the recommended 10% waste factor automatically. For a 1,000 sq ft lawn you'll need approximately 2.5 pallets.
How do I calculate tons of gravel or crushed stone?
Calculate cubic yards first: (area sq ft × depth in inches) ÷ 324. Then multiply by material density — pea gravel ≈ 1.4 tons/yd³, crushed stone ≈ 1.5, river rock ≈ 1.35, decomposed granite ≈ 1.1. Our gravel calculator has density presets built in.
How many cubic yards of concrete do I need?
Multiply length × width × depth in feet, then divide by 27. A 10×10 patio with 4-inch slab = 10×10×0.333 ÷ 27 = 1.23 cubic yards. Always add 5–10% for waste and overpour.
How many pavers do I need for a patio?
Divide your total area (in square feet) by the square footage of one paver, then add 10% for cuts and waste. A 12×12 patio (144 sq ft) with 6×6 pavers (0.25 sq ft each) needs about 576 + 58 waste = 634 pavers.
How do I figure out how many plants I need?
For a grid pattern: divide total area (sq ft) by spacing² in feet. For 18-inch spacing (1.5 ft), a 200 sq ft bed needs about 89 plants. Triangular patterns are ~15% denser. Our plant spacing calculator handles both.
